University of Wisconsin-Madison “Problem of Whiteness” Class

In the Thursday, December 22nd edition of the Washington Times, there was a very disturbing article as it relates to race relations.  It is believable but should not be that any university would allow such a class to exist within its curriculum and there was a significant push back from students.  The course according to university officials “seeks to examine how white people consciously and unconsciously perpetuate institutional racism, which in turn devastates communities of color.”  They state also that they ..”believe this course, which is one of thousands offered at our university, will benefit students who are interested in developing a deeper understanding of race issues and will be a challenge to and response to racism of all kinds.”  I would bet my shirt that this course will not be taught by a white male so the perspective students will receive will be from such a left liberal bent there will be no other cardinal direction left on the compass.  This course is a deliberate target of the white race and is racist in its content and intent to preach about how white people should do this or that and preach to them about their unconscious bias.  Those who know me know that I am adamantly opposed to someone telling me what I am not thinking which is what that would be.

I have stated in my book that it is very easy to discuss race, politics, religion, generations, and so on with people who are of like mind. This would not be the case if the curriculum were inclusive rather than exclusive or if it were designed to help participants feel comfortable about diversity rather than force them to examine their feelings or feel targeted. White males perceive they are the scapegoat and the enemy of minorities and women.  Their perceptions are not entirely without historical merit or foundation with the diversity curriculum they encounter.    Mr. Milbank of the Washington Post in his series of articles  “End to American Whiteness” column speaks volumes as well.   In quotation from his column, Mr. Milbank states:

” The United States is experiencing a rapid decoupling of race and nationality: Whiteness has less and less to do with being American.”  Does being a minority or a woman make you more of an American?

Only liberals and progressives bring race up and throw it in the face of people who happen to be white.  I wrote my book to demonstrate the absolute epic failure of diversity education to improve race relations.  This course just adds to the confirmation of my premise and confirms it.  How can we have true race relations without having divisive courses which seek to divide rather than unite? Unfortunately until we do and use dialogue methods like I use with the World Cafe format, we will be mired in blame, insults, and protests versus dialogue and action plans for solutions.
